Boot Camp Day 37

It was another one of those days!!!

After the radio show this morning, I went about my daily chores before I went to make contacts, only to discover the goats had destroyed some stall doors in the barn and they needed to be repaired immediately so that I could again separate the buck from the does.

After spending a good portion of my day on that, I got something to eat and hit the phones.

One machine right after another. Finally, I got to speak to someone! They already had a home-based business and weren't interested in looking at anymore. So I asked questions about that. I asked them what it was that they do, and how it was going. And by doing that I found out their WHY. She has a son with a disability. So, directed the conversation over to NPO's and I said, "So, I assume you have experience with Non-Profit Organizations." She said "yes." I went on to tell her a little bit about how MPM was originally founded to help NPO's create on going funding! Then I said, "I know you must be doing really great at your business, but if you could harness the power of everyday, spending, purchases you make anyway, and help support your chosen NPO, would you at least take a look at it? She said "sure, but I'm really busy and my husband is the expert in this field, so he would have to look at it." I told her that was fine and we exchanged contact information!

Now I tried to nail down a date and time when I could follow up, but she kept heming and hawing and I really couldn't get a straight answer out of her.
So, I said, "Well, you have my contact info. So, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you!" And we left it at that. I am going to follow up in a few days though.

All in all, the whole day wasn't a complete loss. :-)

I also found out that I'm one of 3 in the semi-finals for the contest at the local radio station! Now, all I need to get to the finals is your vote! Go to: www.myfusefm.com and cast your vote. You can listen to my audition spot, and listen to the station all online! Voting goes until Feb 5th. Also, tell as many as you can. If I win I get a 6 month internship with the possibility of a paid possision at the station! I'd also get my foot seriously in the door... The station is an NPO!!!

So, go vote Friday! My success in becoming The Next Great FuseFM DJ is hinging on your vote!

Boot Camp Day 36

This morning on the call, I got my "chops busted" as Ginny says, and it was very appropriate. I believe it did the trick!

I did get my five contacts and scheduled one out of all for a call back tonight. The rest of my follow ups are unfortunately set for a later date, but they are set.

Here's the funny thing: One of my contacts was returning my call. I told him why I had called him and "left him a message". After getting his contact information, I went through my list again and could not find him. I again studied my caller I.D. and I remembered where I had seen his number before. He was actually a wrong number that I had dialed earlier and he was returning my phone call to see who had called an did not left a message!

So, I believe, thanks to Ginny, I've got the ball rolling again on this. And I'm looking forward to tomorrow!

Boot Camp Day 35

Guess what... I actually got to talk with a couple people today! Yay!

One of the two was not interested in making money from his everyday purchases, and the other was not home at the time according to his mother. I called back at the scheduled time and I got the answering machine. After a brief conversation with the machine I let him go with my information and he promised to give the info to his owner.

I can't believe we only have three more weeks. Time sure does fly!

Boot Camp Day 34

Well, This morning I was at a ski resort. That's why I was on a cell phone on the morning call.
As far as y'all not being able to comment on my posts... I finally figured it out. I have it set up to where I moderate the comments. I'll be sure to keep up with those from now on. Keep 'em comin! They're much appreciated!

I just found out this morning that boot camp has been "extended" due to default....

Now, it's as if I'm in the last stretch. Leaning on the wall gasping for oxygen and my "fans" on the sidelines as well as my teammates who pass me by are stopping. They're all cheering me on, beseeching me to keep going.

This is something I'm going to keep in mind: I'm taking a step toward my goal with every lead call I make, every person I talk to, every relationship I cultivate. My measure of success is not measured by how many yes' I get or how many sign up's I acquire.

With that said, I again didn't make a contact today, but I did meet some very interesting people. Apparently, very well off people as they didn't even want to look at the website...

I will take my steps tomorrow with more gusto and purpose than ever before, with the victory tape in sight, and my teammates urging me on...

Boot Camp Day 33

Man today was BUSY!!!
I did get a little preoccupied. But I managed to call at least 20 leads and I got 1 contact before the day was done...
The pointers that Ginny gave me, were very helpful.
Once again, I wasn't able to nail down a time to get back with them until tomorrow at 4pm.

In the mean time, I'm absolutely gitty about the idea of having Ginny Dye as my guest co-host on one of my upcoming episodes!!! Thank you Ginny!

Boot Camp Day 32

I had a marvelous day. My radio show went off with out a hitch.

On the phone however, well, let's just say at least I talk to more people machines this time.
But they were all not interested... This isn't even touching what it feels like to have to go to a job everyday, so the monotony hasn't showed up. Having said that, it's back to the grind stone tomorrow! LOL

Boot Camp Day 31

This happens every time!

Just when everything seems to be going my way, just when I think I'm finally taking steps forward in my business. I set my figurative foot down in a forward position, and WHAM! I find my face connecting with the proverbial brick wall!!!

Allow me to explain...

I woke up this morning, got on the call, and received accolades from Ginny and the crew. I went on with my day and hopped onto my computer only to discover an email from the young lady who signed up just the night before. She thanked me for the opportunity but she said she had to decline, because she's not a go-getter. She requested that I not contact her again regarding MPM. That's fine. I'm looking for business partners, and if that's not what she is looking for, I can't help her. I can only help those who want help. I asked for the contact info for her friend that heads up her local RFL.... She hasn't gotten back to me.

So, my misfortune seems to have carried over into the rest of my day. The only comfort I received was from those fabulous answering machines I mentioned on the call this morning.
So, after getting the reassuring promises from those excellent electronic stewards of the memorandum realm, I decided to take a brake until tomorrow. I'll be working on prep for my show tomorrow at 12:30pm.

My follow up went well, but It's her son that will be doing the work with the business. So, she's going to show him the presentation and then we will go from there.

If your interested in listening in, I'll be broadcasting at 12:30pm EST. You can listen in or download the podcast after the show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/mythslayer, or you can call in and listen in on the phone! Here's the number: (646) 727-2635. I hope y'all can listen in! 7727 27-2635

Boot Camp Day 31

WOW! What a day! It started and ended well, and it's been a long time since I've been able to say that!

As I watched a truly historic event unfold on my TV I had to fight the shiver of optimism that traveled down my spine. Now, I didn't vote for Mr. Obama, but I could not help but be touch by the positive attitude.

I carried this over into my contacting.

I had success with answering machines first... They were very helpful and they took all my information. Unfortunately, those don't count as contacts.

Finally, a breakthrough! I talked to an actual person! It turned out she was already part of an online shopping company. I asked her if she had to pay to start it up. She said yes. So I told her about the Business Starter Mall and how it's free to start up. She liked that idea and agreed to check it out! We agreed to get back together tomorrow at 7pm.

Then later on I had a follow up with a friend my wife had contacted. I was like a bulldog on a steak. She was very skeptical. So, instead of just rolling over and playing dead, I kept the convo going by asking questions. I got frustrated and finally asked her if she had a charity in mind that she always wished she could give to. She mentioned Relay For Life. And then she said she was gonna turn this onto a friend who headed up RFL. Well, I told her that my objective is to help as many people as possible and if she gives my number to her friend, then it's not helping her at all. That's when I think it snapped. So, I took her back to my biz site and walked her though the sign up process. Quite literally.

Yes... Today was a good day. And I'm very optomistic!

Boot Camp day 30

Okay.... Today went well... A little hectic, but good.

I was rushing around trying to get things done around the house after the call this morning. Like, get my daughter ready to go while my wife got the laundry ready to go. and then I had to feed and water the goats. That consisted of filling up a couple buckets and hauling those out to the barn then feeding them hay. After I did that, of all days, I used up the last of the hay on the ground and had to crawl up into the loft to get another bail down.

By the time we made it to my in-laws (right across the driveway) I had 30mins. to get my game plan emailed off to Ginny. I got upstairs to my laptop, sat down took a breath. Then realizing I had left something downstairs, I got up and started to hurry to the stairs. In the process of doing so, my foot snagged the power cord to my computer, yanking it right out of my computer and causing a short in the part that goes into the wall.

By this time I had 15 minuets to get my email to Ginny.

So, I went downstairs and used my in-laws desktop and got it done with 5 mins. to spare.

I did repair my power cord, but I just need a whole new computer. Anywho, I made my contact calls and the second one I got was good. The follow up, not so much. I was proud of myself though. I stuck to the script and scheduled the follow up for an hour later. I think I'm getting better at doing that. But they really insisted that they weren't looking for an internet business. They, in fact, were looking for an internet job.

Ginny, I now have a new objective for this week. after I got off the phone with that person, I kicked myself. I'm sure you've had those times when you think of what to say WAY after the fact... Well, that's me. Only instead of WAY after the fact, it's coming a little faster.
For some reason, when I hear the word "no" my psyche shuts down and I let 'em go.
My objective for the remainder of the boot camp is going to be breaking through that wall. It starts this week!

My second contact actually was my wife's efforts! She was awesome working the chat on Facebook! She got one of her friends to check out the site and I'll be following up with her tomorrow afternoon at around 2 'o' clock!

I'm beginning to like challenges...

Boot Camp Day 29...

I can't believe it! 10 more days!!! Crazy!!!

I hope the next 10 days are the exact opposite of this one... If they are then I should be getting at least one contact a day, and at least one sign up a day! LOL!

As you guessed it was a very uneventful day...

Boot Camp Day 28

Haha! Today was weird! I can't remember the last time I had a day where I get nothing on the phones but answering machines!!! Unbelievable!

I'm having a lot of fun working with Sherry. She's hitting the ground running! I'm going tomorrow to a local NPO... A Christian radio station. Coincidentally, they are offering a chance to win an internship and I've decided to enter the contest! It's not going to take up a lot of my time. If I knew it was, I wouldn't have applied.

So, once again, I press on by pressing phone numbers and knocking on doors. The ball has started to roll and I'm going to be working to help it pick up speed!

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Boot Camp Day 27

Today was hectic! I had a lot of fun helping Sherry upgrade to a world changer though!

I didn't get any contacts today, I'm still getting "I'm not interested in a home based business" and they hang up! I'm not sure what peoples problems are...

Anyway, I'll be plugging away at it tomorrow....

Boot Camp Day 26

Oops... Sorry I didn't get this out yesterday!

All day yesterday was hectic... But it was OH SO GOOD!!!!

I had a follow up scheduled for yesterday with the contact from the day before... Her name's Sherry. We had a wonderful talk and Jacki even joined us on the call!

I followed the script for the most part, which was good. I asked her if she got to look at the presentation, she said "yes." I said Great! Between the numbers 1 and 10, 1 being not interested, and 10 being ready to sign up, where do you find yourself?" "8", she replied. Then I said, "Awesome! What about it did you like?" She said, "I like the fact that you can help out NPO's just by making everyday normal purchases!" "Absolutely!", I replied. "So, what would it take to get you from an 8 to a 10?" And she said, "I wanna take it before the board and see what they say." I said, "Okay. Jacki, Is there anything else you wanna add?" I was stuck, not sure where to go from there.

Jacki was awesome! She asked her all kinds of questions about the NPO's Sherry was thinking of supporting... Basically, all Jacki was doing was building a relationship and finding out Sherry's why by asking questions and letting Sherry just talk. Jacki helped me finish up 40mins. later, and then I helped Sherry sign up with a Business Starter Mall, which later today I'll be calling Sherry to help her upgrade to a WCM, per her request! Sherry and I had scheduled a time for me to get back to her later that night so I could help her get better acquainted with her back office. We ended up talking for 2 hours! When all was said and done, I was way too stoked, and tired to remember to do my blog and my report.... But yesterday was a GREAT DAY!

Boot Camp Day 25

Well, today was a definite work day.
I made at least 20 calls and got a bunch of no's and answering machines. "Here we go again..." is what I was thinking to myself.

Right at the end of my day, I made one more phone call. While waiting for the person to pick up the phone I was listening to the music her ringer was playing... It happened to be one of my favorite Christian bands! So, she picked up, I introduced myself, and stated my business.

She said she wasn't interested, so I said ok and commented on her ring tone. I let her know that the song she played was by my favorite group. She seemed to soften up a little. I asked her why she wasn't interested. "I'm going through a life change right now... I'm going into the mission field" is what she said.

She also mentioned that she was looking for funding. Immediately my antennae went up. I said, "Well, I work with a company that helps NPO's get funding... This could help with that!" "Really?", She replied. "Of course", I said. "How about I send you an email with a link to our website?" She gave me her information right away!

And I tried to scheduled a call back for 30 minuets, but she said tomorrow would work better.

Out of all that mud (that's exactly what it felt like!), I think I may have found my piece of gold!

Boot Camp Day 24

Okay... I don't have a whole lot to write about.

Life, once again, got in the way. It was one thing right after another and I was not able to get to the phone or get out on the road.

Ergo... no contacts. Um... I know, I know, shame on me. But sometimes this happens. Not usally, which is weird. So, today didn't go as I expected. I'll try to make it up over the weekend.

Boot Camp Day 23

After the call today, I definitely felt more motivated! I think the role-playing was just the ticket!

It didn't make my day go any easier however. I ran into brick wall after brick wall, and after all that I finally got a contact! I tried to follow the manual, but I quickly found out that he was looking for an internet job.... not a business. I got his information and asked him to look at it anyway (hoping that his mind might change).

We agreed that I would call him back in about 30 mins., so that was a breakthrough. I've never done a follow through in the same night before.

I called him back, with manual in front of me. He answered and I said "hey Steve!" I was met with a stern "I'm not interested." I laughed and said "that's funny I usually hear that right off the bat when I first make the contact!" We laughed for a minuet and I said "well, what part didn't you like?" He said "well, for starters I'm not looking to own a business, I want a job. Second, I don't like the fact that I'd have to build a network."

The call ended well with small talk, but I'm still not used to not folding and not taking no for an answer.

I'll be spending the rest of the night thinking about everything I should have said.

Tomorrow will go better... I can feel it! :-)

Boot Camp Day 22

I first would like to say congratulations to those of you who got sign ups the past few days! Way to go!

I did get my five contacts today, and following up continues to be a muddy puddle I must wade through. Slow and tough.

I'm still hearing a lot of "Not interested" or "Oh, I haven't checked it out yet." So, I guess I'll try again tomorrow.

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Boot Camp Day 21

Um... Yeah...

Today was rather uneventful. I didn't get my five, and don't even get me started on follow ups.

I'm not sure what's going on here. It could be the economy, and I understand that we have something that can help with that, or it could be me. Still trying to get back into the "groove". I'm not sure. Either way, it translates into the fact that people (at least the ones I talk to) just simply aren't interested. I could blame it on the media blowing the economical down turn way out of proportion. But I won't.

Once again I find myself in a very frustrating and embarrassing place.
Frustrating, because I'm not seeing anything close to results. I'm no longer seeing results as far as attaining contact information. And embarrassing, because I had a lot of friends and family who have asked how my business is going and I have to sheepishly respond with "slow".

On the other hand, I can't afford to stop trying because I have much too much riding on this. And I'm now running against the clock. In 3 more months my unemployment is going to run out and I'll be forced to swallow the reality of life and revert back to the monotony of a 9 to 5 job. Not exactly where I saw myself this time last year.

So, I'll continue to do what I can and what I'm suggested to do, and we'll see what happens.

Monday, January 5, 2009

And they're off! Day 1 of the second half .

This has been nothing short of an actual boot camp. And like any boot camp it helps you get in shape. This particular boot camp has helped me get in shape to build my business.
But just like every other boot camp, when you decide to take a brake you lose something.
You also run the risk of falling out of shape.

I have fallen grotesquely out of shape. First I had to create time and get back into the swing of things. Second, I had to break through that fear barrier once again. It's funny how that barrier seems to just refortify itself when you are not constant against it every day.

I did get my five today. It took a little more work than before, but I'm sure it will get easier as I get back into the saddle.

As far as follow ups, I think people are still away on vacation or very busy. I got all ansering services. Even though I left messages, I'll be trying them again tomorrow.
